Mr Menelaos Ydreos

Menelaos (Mel) Ydreos is the Secretary General of the International Gas Union (IGU). The IGU’s mission is to advocate for Gas as an integral part of a sustainable global energy system and promote the political, technical, and economic progress of the gas industry.

Mr. Ydreos most recently served as the Executive Director of LNG2023, the global LNG conference staged in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in July 2023. He also served as the Executive Director of Public Affairs and Chairman of the International Gas Union Coordination Committee for its 2015-2018 US Presidency triennium. He supported staging the 2018 World Gas Conference in Washington, DC.

Mr. Ydreos also serves as the Executive Director of Energy Vantage Inc. in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He launched Energy Vantage Inc. after a long career at Union Gas Ltd-A Spectra Energy Company, where he held several executive positions. He served as interim president and CEO of the Ontario Energy Association from 2013 to 2014. Under the IGU's Malaysian Presidency, he chaired the special geopolitics and natural gas task force. He was also the Interim President and CEO of the Canadian Gas Association in 2009.

He has served on the Advisory Committee of the Waterloo Institute of Sustainable Energy. He has served on the Boards of Pollution Probe and the Canadian Standards Association. Mr. Ydreos also volunteered his services to charitable organisations, including the United Way.

Mr. Ydreos earned a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Waterloo.
