Director General, Petroleum Commission of The Gambia
Gambia

Cany Jobe is the Director General of the Petroleum Commission of The Gambia, where she leads the regulation of upstream and midstream petroleum activities, overseeing resource management, licensing, regulatory compliance, and institutional governance in the national interest.

She previously served as Director of Exploration at the Gambia National Petroleum Corporation, advising government on upstream strategy and managing international technical and commercial partnerships across traditional and emerging energy sectors. Beyond her national roles, Cany has actively collaborated with regional institutions and international development partners to advance inclusive and sustainable energy solutions. She has acted as a consultant for development partners, the most recent of which was an engagement by the ECOWAS Commission as a national consultant to support the development of The Gambia’s LPG strategy, aimed at expanding access to cleaner, safer, and more affordable cooking energy while contributing to climate resilience and public health outcomes.

Cany holds a Master of Engineering in Oil and Gas from the University of Western Australia, an Accredited Master of Project Management from Glasgow Caledonian University, and a BSc in Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering from National Taipei University of Technology.

With over 18 years of professional experience, Cany is a petroleum engineer with global exposure across Asia, Australia, West Africa, and the Americas. A recognized advocate for gender equity, STEM education, and sustainable development, she is a frequent contributor to regional and international energy forums.

She is a recipient of multiple industry and leadership recognitions and is known for bridging technical rigor with policy, governance, and development priorities.
